What does ‘Your Seva’ mean?

(Seva, translated into English means ‘selfless service’)
In accordance with the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, we believe that 10% of an individual’s financial income should be donated to charitable causes. We are here to facilitate and to bridge the gap between our generous donors and those we support

What makes us different?

You won’t see many of our UK volunteers in the media.

Why? Because this selfless service is not about us, it’s about you, it’s about the service you are helping us deliver and, most importantly, it’s about those receiving the benefit of that service. We work, as much as we possibly can, behind the scenes and out of the spotlight. The spotlight is, rightly, on those who we serve. It is because of them that we are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to carry out this service.

We actively encourage contact between our donors/volunteers and those we support.

To us, selfless service is about so much more than financial support. We encourage our donors/volunteers to reach out and contact and visit those we support so that first hand personal connections can be made and so that our donors/volunteers can gain a better understanding of how to help. This contact is crucial to share ideas and perspectives, to encourage innovation and ambition amongst the youth we support, to share knowledge and history, to provide emotional support, to help us become responsible and compassionate human beings and to bring back the connections with humanity which we have lost in this technological age. We strongly believe that selfless service benefits those we support as much as it benefits our donors/volunteers.

We are 100% funded by our generous donors.

We are a purely non-profit charitable organisation and do not receive any government support or aid.

We have always had and will continue to have a 100% donation policy.

This means that 100% of any money donated by you will be put towards the causes we support. The running costs of Your Seva are covered solely by reclaimed gift aid.

EQUALITY

We actively reach out to individuals, families and communities who are neglected, vulnerable and in need of support by reason of being orphaned or widowed, youth, elderly age, ill-health, or at any other disadvantage. We fight inequality with courage, hopeand determination and we challenge the structures and systems that hinder people from rising out of poverty. We provide support in a non-political, non-sectarian and non-exclusionary manner.

SOLIDARITY

With compassion and humility, we stand alongside those who struggle against poverty, powerlessness and injustice. By supporting their basic needs, we are able to encourage confidence within them to aspire. We provide the support needed to help families break out of the poverty cycle to provide solid foundations and greater access to opportunities for generations ahead. We place respect for others and unity at the heart of what we do, and we nurture strong relationships with communities so that they truly feel our moral support.

DIGNITY

We strongly believe every human being has the right to live with innate dignity and that all people are of equal worth. By providing basic amenities and supporting education, we alleviate hardships suffered and promote self-sufficiency and long-term independence so as to empower individuals, families and communities to live with the utmost dignity.
